Advantages and Disadvantages of cellphones

Advantages and disadvantages of Cell Phones

In today's modern world, people can have access to highly advanced technological devices to improve their daily lives. Cell phones were invented and have been changed all the time to meet the increasingly high demands of people for communication. It has changed our lives and has both advantages and disadvantages.
Mobile phones can cause negative effects on social life. Mobile phones can easily distract you from important conversations or exciting events in the social world. The lack of interaction with others because of cell phones has become the norm. Life used to be revolved around social interaction, like face to face conversations rather than just texting. Another huge issue these days is using cell phones while driving. Nearly 32 percent of men and 23 percent of women admitted to driving distracted while on a cell phone as of 2009.This can cause life threatening situations such as car crashes. Many people also live without land-line phones, so they depend on their cell phone for communication. However if their cell phone battery dies, they have no phone and no way to communicate.
However mobile technology has transformed the world in many good ways also. Unlike before when people would have to go to banks, or drive to different places to do business, these days they can do the same tasks online or through phone. With mobile e-mail and smart phones that have data programs, cell phones can now be used to conduct business from anywhere. Mobile technology also allows faster communication and better working flexibility. Cell phones and other mobile technology devices have created a way for people across the globe to easily stay in touch. The free time you create gives great opportunities to call an old friend or get some work done through a conference call. Cell phones have also helped with safety issues. As of 2009, about 71 percent of men and 77 percent of women have used their cell phones to assist them in an emergency situation. Parents can choose to give their children cell phones or mobile devices to allow easier communication. Also many cell phones now come with built-in GPS to make keeping track of their Childs location, a lot easier.
In conclusion, the invention of mobile phones has changed our lives, whether in positive or negative ways depending on how we use them. People should not overuse them so that they will not be vulnerable to phone addiction and also save money. However we can say that cell phones play an important in our life and we cannot deny that it has been helping us greatly.

Blogging

I think that blogging is a very personal thing, i think that you have the right to put your thoughts down and express what you are thinking. I agree that you do have freedom of speech the one thing that i do believe though is that it can be taken to far sometimes. I think that you should be able to write about anything you want but when it comes to humiliating someone or bringing them down while writing you have every right to get in trouble for it. People need to understand that blogging can be seen by everyone and they should know that personal things and comments can easily be seen by the person who you are writing about. My thoughts are that its fine to write about whats going on, but leave the nasty comments out of there if you really need to get what your feeling out then write that stuff down in your own journal that way you can express your feelings without the possibility of getting in trouble for it. So I do agree that boss's have every right to fire someone for writing crappy things, because everyone has feelings and its just not right to bring someone down in front of the whole internet.

E-mail and Blogs

I think that its crazy if facebook was a country it would be the 4th largest. Also the fact that Facebook added about 100 million users in less than 9 months. There are over 200,000,000 blogs, 54% of bloggers posted content or tweet daily. It just goes to show that social media has taken over our daily lives, it is the #1 activity on the web. It is kind of sad that everything revolves around the internet, yes technology is changing but EVERYTHING these days is electronic. What will happen to newspapers, writing letters, reading REGULAR books? Sales have decreased in all non-electronic things. I dont know whether to think this is a good thing or a bad thing.

The Truman Show

#9

The Truman Show

“There is no more truth than there is in the world I created for you. The same lies, the same deceit. But in my world, you have nothing to fear.” Christof’s convincing words were not enough to keep Truman in his made up world. It’s time to figure out when reality is truly real. When the story ends, it’s just the beginning for Truman with his last words, where they are now, and the sequel.
The beginning ends with Truman’s last words. Later in his life he started wondering why things were always the same every day. He started questioning everyday things in his life and tried to figure out what was going on. After trying every possible way to escape his strange world, he achieved his goal. Truman tunneled out of his house without anyone realizing it until he was far gone. He finally decided to face his fears and get away from it all, the only way by boat. He was faced with many challenges that he overcame when everyone thought he wouldn’t. The television show staff had tried so hard Truman’s whole life to make sure he wouldn’t find out the truth but he finally did. Truman was in shock when he found that the ocean just stopped at a wall. That’s when he heard the first words from the man who imprisoned him from birth. Christof tried his best to make his words sound convincing to Truman. “Truman’s world is normal. The world that you live in is a sick place. Seahaven is the way the world should be” Christof stated. At that point Truman had a choice to make, did he want to stay in his fake world or venture into a new one. Christof was in disbelief when Truman responded “In case I don’t see you, good afternoon, good evening and goodnight. Then he took his first steps into the real world.
After reality set in, things changed for everyone a lot. Christof decided to stay in his fake, safe world he created. It turns out that he himself was the one that is scared of the real world. Christof didn’t want to accept that his days of hit show making were over. He actually tried once again to adopt and raise a kid in his new world, except the adoption agency wouldn’t let him do that to another kid. His days of television show making were over for good after that. It was also time for the viewers of the show to move on. A lot of the viewing audience that Truman’s show had watched Truman from birth to the end of the show, so Truman was kind of like their child in a way. Truman decided that it would be a good idea to give his audience some closure so he held a huge get together so that his fans could ask questions and get some answers. Many of them were so happy that Truman finally got to experience freedom. After things calmed down he was reunited with crush Sylvia. She had being longing to see him ever since they were separated from each other, and it finally became a reality. Finally life for Truman was looking up and he realized how much he loved the real world compared to his made up world.
When a great movie ends and leaves you on a cliff wondering what happened after, you hope that there is a sequel to get you off that cliff. Once Truman and Sylvia reunite they talk about many things especially what happened during the story. Sylvia felt so bad that she couldn’t stop it all and make Truman realize that his world was completely staged. She explained how hard she tried to stop it all, but nothing she did helped and it broke her heart. After about a year of dating Sylvia Truman decided to ask her to marry him, of course she said yes. They made each other so happy. Eventually once Truman got a job, they had a little baby boy named Johnny. Truman wanted his son to grow up living a real life, so he made sure that Johnny experienced everything a normal little boy would. Life changed tremendously for everyone including Truman and Sylvia, the audience, and Christof.
The story’s ending is just the beginning of Truman’s new adventure. His last words, where he is now, and what happens in the sequel, bring together what reality truly means. Reality is Truman’s new world, not his staged world. But at the end of it all Truman is questioning whether he can truly function in this new world of his. Will he go back? We will never know.

News notes

Define “Broadcast Journalism” in 1-3 sentences.

Delivering current events that are newsworthly through television, radio, and internet.

List and describe the six criteria of newsworthiness.
1. Significance- the amount of impact it has. (September 11th)

2. Unusualness- Something that people dont expect, something thats out of the ordinary. (Man bites dog)

3. Timeliness- What is happening currently. (Current traffic)

4. Prominence- News about Celebrities and people we care about. (Lindsey Lohan goes to jail)

5. Proximity- News that is close to us. (Eagans flood)

6. Human interest- A feel good story (A panda being born)

What are the differences between print journalism and broadcast journalism?
1. Broadcast journalism can be easily be edited to make it more current. It also allows you to present news live.

2. Print journalism allows the news to be in more detail.

3. Print journalism allows you to choose what you want to read, where in broadcast journalism the news is picked for you and you cant skip over something that you dont want to listen to.

4. Broadcast is a lot more visual than print.

How is the Internet impacting broadcast journalism?
You have all of the strengths of both broadcast journalism and print journalism in one. Its right at your fingertips, and you can choose what you want to read. The internet is basically ruining the newspaper though because people arent buying news papers as much as they used to.
